{"id":6702,"date":"2020-05-25T07:37:22","date_gmt":"2020-05-25T07:37:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=6702"},"modified":"2026-04-24T05:00:35","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T08:00:35","slug":"macau-china-open-borders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-china-open-borders","title":{"rendered":"Macau urges China to reopen borders"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Delegation of Macau lawmakers set to request the reopening of borders at the National People&#8217;s Congress. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- Macau lawmakers have urged the Chinese central government resume normal cross-border operations between the SAR, Hong Kong and Guangdong Province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The deputies will officially make the request at the National People&#8217;s Congress (NPC) where among other topics delegates will be <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/china-macau-gaming-industry\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>discussing proposals to fuel the SAR&#8217;s economic recovery post Covid-19.<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The delegation believes Macau and Guangdong Province have the pandemic under control, and that Beijing should support and coordinate the local governments to expedite the restoration of cross-border operations between the two regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Macau\u2019s economy is greatly impacted by the global pandemic,&#8221; Macau Chief Executive, Ho Iat Seng, said in an interview with&nbsp;<em>China News Service<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Macau is a low-risk region and our active cases have recently reached zero.
