{"id":6344,"date":"2020-05-11T10:06:42","date_gmt":"2020-05-11T10:06:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=6344"},"modified":"2026-04-24T05:22:41","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T08:22:41","slug":"china-lottery-sales-march","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/china-lottery-sales-march","title":{"rendered":"China: lottery sales jumped in March"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Lottery sales reached RMB10.5billion (US$1.5billion) in March as the sector sees signs of recovery post Covid-19. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>China.-  Lottery sales in China rose during March after retailers re-opened following the Coronavirus crisis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beijing\u2019s lottery operators reopened this week after a 105-day long closure period, making it the last region in China to resume operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to figures released by China\u2019s Ministry of Finance, lottery sales reached RMB10.5billion (US$1.5billion) in March. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This represents a 70 per cent year on year decline but a sharp increase from February, with revenues of just RMB1million. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Total sales over the first quarter of 2020 were down 64.5 per cent to RMB37.7billion, with sports lottery sales (RMB19.65b -65.7 per cent) maintaining their lead over the welfare lottery (RMB18.05b, -63.2 per cent) despite the mass cancellation of major sports events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While early reports indicated that since the resumption of operations in Beijing sales have been slow, retailers are hopeful that the restart of Germany\u2019s Bundesliga season&nbsp;later this month will help to drive sports lottery customers back to the shops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>China lottery sales <a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/chinas-lottery-sales-gambling\"><em><strong>had been suffering a decline since January<\/strong><\/em><\/a> when the lockdown began in the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>China\u2019s welfare<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and sports lottery are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/wing-hing-lottery-contract\"><em><strong>the only legal forms of gambling\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/a>in the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lottery sales reached RMB10.5billion (US$1.5billion) in March as the sector sees signs of recovery post Covid-19.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":3053,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"China's state-sanctioned lottery sector reported RMB10.5 billion (US$1.5 billion) in March GGR, indicating a significant sequential recovery from February's low, despite a 70% year-on-year decline attributed to COVID-19 lockdowns.
