Vietnam.- An illegal online gambling ring has been raided by police with 21 people arrested while the country remains on lockdown due to Covid-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The police investigation found the illegal gambling organisation had generated revenues of VND20 trillion (US$858.3million). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among those arrested was 28-year-old Nguyen Thi\u00a0Huong Ly, considered to be the ring-leader, and 24-year-old Nguyen Duc\u00a0Manh. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were charged with offering online gambling games such as poker via servers based overseas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vietnam, a nation that describes gambling as “social evil,” has taken steps to legalise and regulate online gambling, including permitting sports betting back in 2017. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has also been running a trial to allow people aged over 21 with a monthly income of at least VND10 million (US$432) to play in a casino on the southern Phu Quoc Island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
