{"id":621,"date":"2019-11-01T18:22:47","date_gmt":"2019-11-01T18:22:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=621"},"modified":"2026-04-24T10:11:57","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T13:11:57","slug":"hong-kong-genting-invest-offshore-gambling-cruise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/hong-kong-genting-invest-offshore-gambling-cruise","title":{"rendered":"Hong Kong: Genting to invest in offshore gambling cruise"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Genting Hong Kong announced on a Friday report, the completion of the sale of an initial tranche of shares in global cruise ship company Dream Cruises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Hong Kong.- Back in August, Genting Hong Kong, reached an agreement to sell a 35% stake in Dream Cruises to an investment holding company owned by TPG Darting Ltd (Canada), for around \u20ac440 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, and during today\u2019s filing,\nGenting Hong Kong confirmed that the agreement had become a reality and announced\nthe completion of the initial tranche of the payment for \u20ac408 million, which represents\n32.2% of the issued share capital of Dream Cruises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Genting Hong Kong\u2019s goal of\nowning a large fleet of ships is underway. Currently, Dream Cruises operates\nthree ships \u2013 Genting Dream, World Dream and Explorer Dream \u2013 but it aims to\ncontinue amplifying its fleet of ships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company is expected to add\ntwo other ships within the next several years. The \u201cGlobal Class\u201d ships are\ncurrently being built in Germany; the first ship will be delivered in early\n2021 and the second in early 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/genting-hong-kong-cuts-stake-nclh\"><strong><em>The partial selling of the company<\/em><\/strong><\/a> is the first step towards achieving its dream; \u201cthe disposal will reduce the Group\u2019s financial burden in meeting future funding requirements in relation to Dream Cruises\u2019 business.\u201d This will definitely \u201cstrengthen the Group\u2019s balance sheet and its ability to continue to expand its fleet in the cruise industry.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Genting HK added, \u201cas the\nlargest cruise operator in the Asia Pacific region with a leading market share,\nthe company is well positioned to further capitalize on its industry leader\nposition.
