Direct investments refer to money that comes into the city from outside entities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The total amount of inward investments for last year was approximately \u20ac3 billion \u2013 representing a 7 times increase, from a year earlier (\u20ac390,57 million). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/macau-healthy-development-gaming\"><strong><em>Gaming, is the biggest contributor to Macau\u2019s economy<\/em><\/strong><\/a> when analysing all sectors, capturing 70.8% of the entire investment amount. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, the income from\nthose investments reached \u20ac8 billion, a year-on-year increase of 18.8%. Of that, income\nfrom investments in the gaming sector jumped 15% year-on-year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite these favorable numbers,\ngaming revenue in Macau has been relatively flat this year, compared to what was\ninitially expected. Other types of inward investments didn\u2019t see any growth.\nThe real estate development sector saw a decline of 8% and the retail sector\nhad a drop of 6.6%. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inward investments weren\u2019t the\nonly type that increased last year; outward direct investments by Macau\nentities reached \u20ac246,33 million, an increase of 22.3% from the 2017 figure.
