{"id":6040,"date":"2020-04-29T10:21:35","date_gmt":"2020-04-29T10:21:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=6040"},"modified":"2026-04-24T05:40:29","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T08:40:29","slug":"macau-gaming-visitors-fall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-gaming-visitors-fall","title":{"rendered":"Macau: visitor numbers plummet 94% in March"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Just 212,311 visited Macau in March due to the restriction still in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- The <em><strong>Statistic and Census Bureau<\/strong><\/em> announced that the number of visitors during March in Macau fell by 93.7 per cent year-on-year to 212,311 due to restrictions in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visitor numbers have been in free fall since restrictions were put in place, including the temporary suspension of individual and group visas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While times are undoubtedly tough, the number of visitors to Macau in March represents a 35.8 per cent increase on from February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But year on year, the numbers reflect the impact the Coronavirus crisis is having.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overnight visitors (125,896) and same-day visitors (86,415) declined respectively by 92.0 per cent and 95.2 per cent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The average length of stay of visitors went up by 1.8 days year-on-year to 3.0 days; overnight visitors prolonged their stay by 2.5 days to 4.7 days. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The duration for same-day visitors remained unchanged at 0.2 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In terms of source markets, the number of mainland Chinese visitors fell by 96.3 per cent year-on-year to 88,890. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) fell 99.4 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visitors from Hong Kong (111,347) fell by 81.5 per cent from the prior-year period, while those from other major source markets showed decreases of more than 90 per cent, the Bureau said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just 212,311 visited Macau in March due to the restriction still in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":5012,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau experienced a 93.7% year-on-year decline in visitor arrivals during March, totaling 212,311, primarily due to ongoing COVID-19 travel restrictions.
