{"id":5964,"date":"2020-04-27T00:01:38","date_gmt":"2020-04-27T00:01:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=5964"},"modified":"2026-04-24T05:46:01","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T08:46:01","slug":"philippines-pogos-lockdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/philippines-pogos-lockdown","title":{"rendered":"POGOs to stay closed as lockdown extended"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>President Rodrigo Duterte extends Covid-19 lockdown measures in certain parts of the country for another two weeks to May 15.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Philippines.- <strong><em>Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators <\/em><\/strong>(POGOs) will remain suspended after the government extended Coronavirus quarantine measures until mid-May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/philippines-pogos-gaming-activities\">strongly hinted last week that POGO operations would resume at the end of April<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, but those rumours have been quashed at least for the next few weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the weekend, Philippines President, Rodrigo Duterte, extended enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) measures in certain parts of the country for another two weeks to May 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding POGOs, Presidential Spokesperson, Harry Roque, said: &#8220;They still can\u2019t [operate] because these are considered amusement and leisure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;They are included in the negative list which also bars the reopening of schools, places of worship, industries and tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We have [the] Bayanihan to Heal as One Act which penalises an individual who violates in this time of crisis,&#8221; Roque added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bayanihan to Heal as One Act can impose a one-year imprisonment or a fine ranging from PHP10,000 (US$197) to PHP1 Million (US$19,700) to people who breach quarantine measures.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Rodrigo Duterte extends Covid-19 lockdown measures in certain parts of the country for another two weeks to May 15.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"The Philippine government has extended COVID-19 quarantine measures until May 15, maintaining the suspension of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).
