{"id":5797,"date":"2020-04-21T10:42:07","date_gmt":"2020-04-21T10:42:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=5797"},"modified":"2026-04-24T05:56:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T08:56:09","slug":"macau-reduction-gaming-tax","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-reduction-gaming-tax","title":{"rendered":"Macau considers reducing gaming tax"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Ho Iat Seng considering measures to help operators survive the impact of the Coronavirus outbreak. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- The Government is considering a reduction in gaming tax in order to help gaming operators that are suffering record losses due to the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The announcement came yesterday when the Chief Executive of the city, Ho Iat Seng, spoke in the Legislative Assembly.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also dismissed a scenario where gaming concessions in the city would be extended telling local media &#8220;the concessionaires still have the means to endure.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier, he had said that Macau would\u00a0ask Beijing\u00a0to return and extend tourist visas, suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;With a view to recovering the local tourism sector, we will in due course request the central government to resume issuing tourist visas,&#8221; Ho said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also promised to ask Beijing to extend the issuance of individual visas to more cities in the interior of China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The focus of tourist attraction will be centred on neighbouring regions, he admitted, but plans will also be launched in order to expand &#8220;the markets of origin of tourists&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, Macau welcomed almost 40 million visitors, the overwhelming majority coming from China.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ho Iat Seng considering measures to help operators survive the impact of the Coronavirus outbreak.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau's Chief Executive, Ho Iat Seng, is evaluating a reduction in gaming tax to alleviate the severe financial strain on gaming operators caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
