{"id":5218,"date":"2020-04-02T12:34:25","date_gmt":"2020-04-02T12:34:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=5218"},"modified":"2026-04-24T06:29:00","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T09:29:00","slug":"asia-alerts-betting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/asia-alerts-betting","title":{"rendered":"A third of suspicious betting alerts come from Asia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>New figures from the International Betting Integrity Association show Asia is a hotbed for suspicious betting activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Asia.- Almost a third of all betting alerts come from the Asia region according to new figures released by the <strong><em>International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA)<\/em><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>IBIA reports that on a global scale there is a 65 per cent year-on-year increase in suspicious betting activity for the opening three months of the year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A total of 61 alerts were recorded across seven different sports during the three months to 31 March. This figure also represented a 36 per cent increase on <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/ibia-suspicious-betting\">the final quarter of 2019<\/a><\/em><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A total of 18 alerts were filed in Asia in Q1 of 2020, eight of which were for tennis, six for football, three for basketball and a single alert for cricket. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That figure falls short of Europe&#8217;s 27 alerts filed, but still represents a high amount for the region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> &#8220;IBIA saw an increase in suspicious betting activity in the week leading to the global sports shutdown highlighting the opportunism of corrupters,&#8221; IBIA Chief Executive Khalid Ali, said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Whilst there has since been a relative lull, we fully expect the business threat to rise as sport is restored and betting product catalogues return to a level of normality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Indeed, it is clear that corrupters are still operating and seeking to exploit the current situation.
