The main reason for the delay is restrictions on international travel due to the impact of Covid-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;People currently cannot travel between Japan and the United States. Opening before the World Expo was already going to be a tough climb, but with movement now stopped, we can\u2019t avoid the conclusion that there isn\u2019t enough time,\u201d Osaka Mayor, Ichiro Matsui, explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The restrictions have a big impact on Osaka&#8217;s IR plans as its the only current operator candidate is US-based <strong><em>MGM Resorts.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/mgm-osaka-ir-casino\">MGM-Orix consortium<\/a><\/em><\/strong> is the sole qualified applicant for the Osaka Yumeshima integrated resort, according to the Osaka Prefectural Government, after the withdrawal of Galaxy Entertainment Group and Genting Singapore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Osaka expected to make a final decision on its operator partner in June but this has now been pushed back to September<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The handover of the land on Yumeshima, where the IR will be built, was supposed to happen in the Autumn of 2021 but is now expected to take place in the Spring of 2022.<br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Grand opening has been pushed back a year due to Coronavirus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":2411,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"The planned opening of the Osaka Integrated Resort has been deferred by one year to 2026, primarily due to international travel restrictions stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.
