{"id":466,"date":"2019-10-28T11:55:16","date_gmt":"2019-10-28T11:55:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=466"},"modified":"2026-04-24T10:16:23","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T13:16:23","slug":"star-entertainment-group-to-invest-in-gold-coast-monopoly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/star-entertainment-group-to-invest-in-gold-coast-monopoly","title":{"rendered":"Star Entertainment Group to invest in Gold Coast monopoly"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Casino operator The Star Entertainment Group Ltd is expected to invest on the Gold Coast, Queensland monopoly as convention center and resort expansion plans are revealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Australia.-  The Star Entertainment has unveiled a plan to invest billions on the Gold Coast as it tries to convince the Queensland state government to abandon plans to allow a second casino in the city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The firm\u2019s development pitch was outlined by Star Entertainment Group Chairman John O\u2019Neill, during an address to shareholders at its Annual General Meeting on Thursday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chairman O\u2019Neill presented three main proposals: firstly, they would expect to release&nbsp;\u201cin stages\u201d a \u20ac1,2 billion master plan, including five additional towers on top of the existing The Star Grand and The Darling complex on the Gold Coast; a place that thanks to rapid urban development has become a city authority in its own right. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Secondly, the firm\u2019s proposal would involved&nbsp;a major revamp of Star Entertainment\u2019s Sheraton Grand Mirage resort on the Gold Coast; which might include a low-rise development with&nbsp;tourism and residential elements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, invest a \u20ac61,4 million in the revamping of the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre; a facility built on state-owned land but which would be operated by Star Entertainment after renovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A second casino? No thanks.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The plans are contingent on the Queensland state\ngovernment scrapping its&nbsp;pursuit of a second casino on\nthe Gold Coast.
