{"id":3722,"date":"2020-02-21T07:13:53","date_gmt":"2020-02-21T07:13:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=3722"},"modified":"2026-04-24T07:41:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T10:41:09","slug":"melco-casino-coronavirus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/melco-casino-coronavirus","title":{"rendered":"Melco Resorts expects \u201closs-making days\u201d after re-opening"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I think our revenues are going to be impacted in a great way&#8221;, Melco\u2019s COO of Macau Resorts, David Sisk said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Macau.- <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/melco-macau-hotel-casinos\">Melco Resorts &amp; Entertainment<\/a><\/em><\/strong> has said that it expects some loss making days despite re-opening its casinos at City of Dreams and Studio City as the <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/topics\/coronavirus\">Coronavirus<\/a><\/em><\/strong> outbreak continues affecting tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Melco\u2019s COO of Macau Resorts, David Sisk, talked about the impact of the 15-day closure period would have on gaming revenues moving forwards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think our revenues are going to be impacted in a great way. Obviously we\u2019re going to try to minimize our costs as much as we possibly can, but we are going to be challenged and obviously, we\u2019re not the only one out there. It\u2019s going to be challenging for the next four to six months,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even though some casinos re-opened on Thursday, visitor numbers remain low due to the ongoing Coronavirus threat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs we opened up at Studio City [on Thursday], we had about 10 customers that came in. As we opened up City of Dreams there were maybe 10 to 12 customers there,\u201d Sisk revealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho said that he expects Macau to be \u201cvery, very quiet for quite a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the main reasons for the drop in visitor numbers is the decision three weeks ago by authorities in mainland China to stop issuing <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/china-visas-gamblers-macau\">individual travel visas<\/a><\/em><\/strong> for mainland residents visiting Macau, as part of measures to contain the Coronavirus outbreak. <br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;I think our revenues are going to be impacted in a great way&#8221;, Melco\u2019s COO of Macau Resorts, David Sisk said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Melco Resorts & Entertainment anticipates significant revenue impact and operational challenges in Macau due to the Coronavirus outbreak, despite casino re-openings.
