Last year, online casino\u2019s performance helped the overall industry in Denmark achieve good results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Total revenue in Denmark totalled \u20ac879 million, representing a 1.8% increase from 2018. Sports betting accounted for \u20ac334 million or 38.1% of the total, but it represents a 1% setback from the previous year. In the fourth quarter it registered a 6.5% decline, completing the last three quarters in revenue decreases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Online casinos\u2019 gross gaming revenue (GGR) rose 8.1% to \u20ac311.8 million and was the only vertical to register a year-on-year increase in 2019. Every quarter posted an increase, but the second quarter was the top performer with an 18% revenue rise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Slots accounted for 72.2% of the total revenue, way ahead of roulette\u2019s 10.4% and blackjack\u2019s 8.3%. Bingo accounted for \u20ac12.7 million in 2019. The land-based sector saw revenue decline 1.7% to \u20ac46.5 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Denmark to increase iGaming tax<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Denmark\u2019s Social Democratic government&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/denmark-igaming-tax\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>approved<\/em><\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;in December this year\u2019s Finance Act. The new budget in Denmark increases taxes for iGaming and sports betting providers by 8%, which brings the total to 28%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government believes that increasing the taxes to 38% will make them perceive an extra \u20ac20.1 million in profits into government coffers, Xinhua reported. The measure received support from Unity List, Radicals, SF and the Alternative Party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government decided to increase the taxes for iGaming and sports betting operators as it believed that it was significantly lower than the one land-based casinos pay.
