Macau.- The Government of Macau has announced that the city’s 41 casinos can re-open from midnight on 20 February following the 15-day shutdown<\/a><\/em><\/strong> amid the on-going Coronavirus crisis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At a press conference on Monday afternoon, The Secretary for Economy and Finance, Lei Wai Nong, confirmed that operators can re-open from Thursday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They do have the option to apply for a 30-day extension to the closure, which must be submitted within the next two days, but after that eligible period the casino will be required to re-open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On re-opening, casinos must adhere to certain criteria set by the government. This includes staff wearing face masks and undertaking temperature checks on staff and visitors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities also ordered non-resident workers returning to Macau from the mainland to be quarantined for 14 days before their entry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a bid to encourage tourists to return after Coronavirus<\/a><\/strong><\/em> closure, residents and tourists will not be required to enter quarantine at this stage. The number of visitors entering Macau from mainland China fell to just 1,400 on Sunday.
