{"id":3579,"date":"2020-02-18T11:09:47","date_gmt":"2020-02-18T11:09:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=3579"},"modified":"2026-04-24T07:46:46","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T10:46:46","slug":"macau-casino-coronavirus-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-casino-coronavirus-2","title":{"rendered":"Macau casinos to re-open from 20 February"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Operators can open their doors from midnight on Thursday but must adhere to certain Coronavirus measures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- The Government of Macau has announced that the city&#8217;s 41 casinos can re-open from midnight on 20 February following the <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-casino-closur\">15-day shutdown<\/a><\/em><\/strong> amid the on-going Coronavirus crisis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At a press conference on Monday afternoon, The Secretary for Economy and Finance, Lei Wai Nong, confirmed that operators can re-open from Thursday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They do have the option to apply for a 30-day extension to the closure, which must be submitted within the next two days, but after that eligible period the casino will be required to re-open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On re-opening, casinos must adhere to certain criteria set by the government. This includes staff wearing face masks and undertaking temperature checks on staff and visitors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities also ordered non-resident workers returning to Macau from the mainland to be quarantined for 14 days before their entry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a bid to encourage tourists to return after <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/topics\/coronavirus\">Coronavirus<\/a><\/strong><\/em> closure, residents and tourists will not be required to enter quarantine at this stage.
