{"id":34664,"date":"2022-10-21T09:21:54","date_gmt":"2022-10-21T12:21:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=34664"},"modified":"2026-04-23T03:43:26","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T06:43:26","slug":"pagcor-assists-the-victims-of-two-fires-in-quezon-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/pagcor-assists-the-victims-of-two-fires-in-quezon-city","title":{"rendered":"PAGCOR assists the victims of two fires in Quezon City"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>PAGCOR has aided victims in Barangay Obrero and Barangay UP Campus in Diliman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>The Philippines.- <strong>The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation <\/strong>(PAGCOR) has given aid to the victims of two fires in Quezon City.&nbsp;The regulator distributed 250 non-food packages containing blankets, mosquito nets, slippers and toiletries on October 13 to people affected by a fire in Barangay Obrero on September 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also coordinated the relief efforts with <strong>the Philippine National Police Community Assistance and Development Division <\/strong>(PNP-CADD). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this month, PAGCOR <strong>distributed PHP240,000 in cash assistance<\/strong> to the families of eight people who died in a fire that destroyed several houses in Barangay UP Campus in Diliman, Quezon City last May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also this week,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/pagcor-distributes-php19-5m-in-grants\" target=\"_blank\">the regulator<\/a>&nbsp;donated<strong>&nbsp;PHP19.5m (US$331m)<\/strong>&nbsp;to organisations and local government institutions. The recipients were the Kaginhawaan Development Institute (KDI), Organization of Student Services Educators (OSSEI), Wounded Soldiers Agriculture Cooperative (WSAC), Provincial Government of Isabela and Barangay Bautista, City of San Pablo, Laguna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, the government is debating whether to end PAGCOR&#8217;s dual responsibilities by&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/pagcor-to-analyse-possible-privatisation-of-gaming-operations\" target=\"_blank\">privatising its gaming operations<\/a>. In August,&nbsp;<strong>Benjamin E. Diokno<\/strong>, the Philippines\u2019 finance secretary, said that&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/philippines-finance-secretary-says-pagcor-role-must-be-made-clear\" target=\"_blank\">the issue of PAGCOR\u2019s potential conflict of interest<\/a>&nbsp;needed to be resolved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diokno said: \u201cPagcor\u2019s new leadership will have to make their own plans moving forward. They should resolve the seemingly&nbsp;<strong>conflicting roles<\/strong>&nbsp;as an operator and regulator.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PAGCOR currently regulates, authorises and licenses gaming in the Philippines but it also operates over 40 casinos itself.
