{"id":34527,"date":"2022-10-18T09:39:17","date_gmt":"2022-10-18T12:39:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=34527"},"modified":"2026-04-23T03:50:52","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T06:50:52","slug":"kazuo-okada-arrested-in-the-philippines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/kazuo-okada-arrested-in-the-philippines","title":{"rendered":"Kazuo Okada arrested in the Philippines"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Okada has been arrested by the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group after arriving from Japan,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>The Philippines.- <strong>Kazuo Okada<\/strong> has been arrested after returning to the Philippines to fight&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/authorities-indict-kazuo-okada-and-three-others-for-grave-coercion\" target=\"_blank\">charges of grave coercion<\/a>&nbsp;brought against him in connection with his forced&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/controversy-surrounds-kazuo-okadas-return-to-okada-manila\" target=\"_blank\">takeover of the Okada Manila casino<\/a>&nbsp;in late May. He was arrested at Ninoy Aquino International Airport by the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group after arriving from Haneda, Japan, on Monday morning (October 18).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In April, the Supreme Court of the Philippines issued<strong> a status quo ante order (SQAO) <\/strong>that recognised Kazuo Okada as the sole representative of Tiger Resort Asia Limited in Tiger Resort Leisure &amp; Entertainment and ordered his reinstatement as a shareholder, director, chairman and CEO.&nbsp;However, the DOJ says Okada \u201cwent beyond&#8221; what the SQAO permitted\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Okada said in a statement: \u201cI insisted on coming back to the Philippines despite several warnings from my lawyers that I may be detained by the authorities. I want to show the Filipino people and the world that I am not afraid. I came back to face this \u201cgrave coercion\u201d charge against me and my associates.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have nothing to fear when I know I am standing on the right side of the law. I will not bow down to intimidation, and I will not back off from this legal battle. This fight isn\u2019t over.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In September,&nbsp;<strong>Tiger Resort Asia Limited (TRAL)&nbsp;<\/strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/tral-and-universal-entertainment-retake-control-of-okada-manila\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">retook control of Okada Manila<\/a>\u2019s casino resort. Kazuo Okada remains recognised on the board for now in view of the SQAO which temporarily restored him to his position. However,&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/kazuo-okada-misses-first-meeting-of-trleis-reinstated-board\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">he did not attend the board\u2019s first meeting<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Okada Manila foot traffic up 355% between January and September<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tiger Resort Leisure and Entertainment Inc. (TRLEI)&nbsp;<\/strong>has reported that Okada Manila saw a 355 per cent increase in foot traffic for the first nine months of 2022. It said it expects that to continue improving due to the<strong>&nbsp;growing demand for gaming and entertainment<\/strong>&nbsp;after the easing of Covid-19 countermeasures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Byron Yip, TRLEI president, told the Manila Bulletin: \u201cWe at Okada Manila are seeing green shoots of recovery from when the pandemic struck the Philippines in 2020.&nbsp;\u201cThrough the collaboration of our employees and leaders, Okada Manila was able to record more than two folds growth in our monthly foot traffic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hans Van Der Sande<\/strong>, chief financial officer and treasurer of TRLEI, said the Philippines has attracted tourists from South Korea and other Southeast Asian countries, despite restrictions on resuming junkets from China.
