Those who escaped said<strong>\u00a0they went to Cambodia to work at online casinos<\/strong>, but were overworked and weren&#8217;t paid or allowed to rest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In July,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/cambodia-chinese-embassy-warns-citizens-to-about-online-gambling-syndicates\" target=\"_blank\">The Chinese Embassy in Cambodia<\/a>\u00a0posted a statement on its website reminding Chinese citizens not to associate with online gambling syndicates.\u00a0The statement came after\u00a0<strong>several online gambling syndicates<\/strong>\u00a0were found to have posted fake job advertisements to lure Chinese nationals who were then kidnapped for ransom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cambodia has also signed a<strong>&nbsp;memorandum of understanding&nbsp;<\/strong>with Thailand to&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/thailand-and-cambodia-join-forces-to-crack-down-on-online-gambling-dens\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tackle online gambling hub operators<\/a>&nbsp;and call-centre scammers.
