The figure was down 97.4 per cent\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-visitor-arrivals-down-36-6-in-june\" target=\"_blank\">month-on-month<\/a>\u00a0and 98.8 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The numbers were severely impacted by the latest outbreak of Covid-19 cases in Macau, which\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/a-new-outbreak-of-covid-19-cases-in-macau-puts-casinos-on-alert\" target=\"_blank\">started on June 19<\/a>\u00a0and took more than a month for the authorities to bring under control.\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-casinos-to-reopen-from-july-23-on-limited-basis\" target=\"_blank\">Casinos were shut<\/a> for two weeks. Authorities also tightened travel rules with neighbouring Zhuhai in the Chinese mainland\u2019s Guangdong province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the first seven months of 2022, visitor arrivals were down by 26.3 per cent year-over-year to 3,474,866. The tally of same-day visitors, at 2,188,015, and overnight visitors, at 1,286,851, fell by 2.6 per cent and 47.9 per cent respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In July,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-plunges-to-lowest-monthly-tally-since-2003\" target=\"_blank\">Macau\u2019s gross gaming revenue<\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>was down<strong>\u00a083.9 per cent\u00a0<\/strong>month-on-month from MOP2.48bn to MOP398m (US$49.2m). The figure was down 95.3 per cent when compared to July 2021 and was the lowest since 2003, when city authorities began publishing monthly figures. Macau\u2019s GGR for the\u00a0<strong>first seven months of 2022\u00a0<\/strong>combined stands at MOP26.6bn (US$3.29bn), down 53.6 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-could-reach-us185-7m-in-august-analysts-say\" target=\"_blank\">Analysts at Citibank<\/a>\u00a0have forecast that Macau\u2019s\u00a0<strong>GGR for August<\/strong>\u00a0could rise 376 per cent month-over-month to MOP 1.5bn (US$185.7m).
