The statement comes after <strong>a number of online gambling syndicates<\/strong> were found to have posted fake job advertisements to lure Chinese nationals who were then kidnapped for ransom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cambodian police, in conjunction with the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, carried out a raid to rescue the victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The embassy also reminded Chinese citizens that they should enter Cambodia through formal channels and asked them to avoid falling for scams that promised absurd profits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last September, China and Cambodia renewed their existing&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/china-and-cambodia-renew-agreement-on-cross-border-crime\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cooperation agreement on cross border gambling<\/a>. When the first agreement was signed, in March 2019, Cambodia banned online gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cambodia has also signed a<strong>\u00a0memorandum of understanding\u00a0<\/strong>with Thailand to\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/thailand-and-cambodia-join-forces-to-crack-down-on-online-gambling-dens\" target=\"_blank\">tackle online gambling hub operators<\/a>\u00a0and call-centre scammers.
