Authorities have designated\u00a0former judge <strong>The Honourable Robert Gotterson AO<\/strong>\u00a0to lead the review, which will probe similar matters as those\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/ilga-public-hearings-into-the-star-sydney-to-start-next-week\" target=\"_blank\">covered in New South Wales<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the government, the inquiry will examine Star&#8217;s commitment to anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML\/CTF) responsibilities, the management of VIP patrons, high rollers and international patrons and the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/star-deputy-treasurer-misled-national-australia-bank-inquiry-hears\" target=\"_blank\">use of China UnionPay debit or credit card facilities<\/a>\u00a0and other arrangements to facilitate gambling by Chinese nationals despite Chinese currency movement restrictions, among other topics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The review will report to the attorney general, minister for justice, minister for women and minister for the prevention of domestic and family violence by September 30.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Queensland\u2019s attorney general <strong>Shannon Fentiman<\/strong>, who ordered the review, has recently announced the introduction of legislative reforms to the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/queensland-announces-tougher-gambling-laws-and-higher-penalties\" target=\"_blank\">Queensland casino regulatory framework<\/a>. The Casino Control and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2022 proposes\u00a0<strong>tougher gambling laws, higher penalties<\/strong>\u00a0and more gambling harm minimisation measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile,\u00a0The Star Entertainment\u00a0has named\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/the-star-entertainment-group-appoints-new-ceo\">Robert Cooke<\/a>\u00a0as managing director and chief executive officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cooke\u00a0said: \u201cI am delighted to have the opportunity to re-join the gaming and hospitality industry, which is a passion of mine and where I have spent the majority of my career.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are challenges for The Star that have been well documented.
