While the group battles to <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/star-not-suitable-to-hold-casino-licence-in-sydney-counsel-tells-inquiry\" target=\"_blank\">retain its casino licence in Sydney<\/a> amid an ongoing inquiry in New South Wales, it will now face a probe in Queensland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Shannon Fentiman<\/strong>, Queensland&#8217;s attorney general, has ordered a review into the casino operator\u2019s suitability to hold a licence in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company said in a statement: &#8220;Further details, including the terms of reference and timeframes, once considered by the Queensland Cabinet, will be made available as they become known.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Star Entertainment Group added that\u00a0<strong>it continues to cooperate with relevant regulatory authorities<\/strong>, including the Queensland Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation and the ongoing review being conducted by Adam Bell SC in relation to The Star Sydney.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few weeks ago, Fentiman announced the introduction of legislative reforms to the&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/queensland-announces-tougher-gambling-laws-and-higher-penalties\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Queensland casino regulatory framework<\/a>. The Casino Control and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2022 proposes&nbsp;<strong>tougher gambling laws, higher penalties<\/strong>&nbsp;and more gambling harm minimisation measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fentiman said: &#8220;These reforms are considered to be&nbsp;<strong>examples of best practice casino regulation<\/strong>&nbsp;and will be in place before the opening of the new casino at Queen\u2019s Wharf to be operated by The Star.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Star says it&#8217;s fit to hold a casino licence in Sydney<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Star Entertainment Group has responded to\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/star-not-suitable-to-hold-casino-licence-in-sydney-counsel-tells-inquiry\" target=\"_blank\">final submissions made by counsel Naomi Sharp SC<\/a>. It argued that it should be allowed to keep its gaming licence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kate Richardson<\/strong>, Star&#8217;s lawyer, said the company accepted that the evidence demonstrated significant deficiencies and failings. However, she said that the people who engaged in the misconduct were no longer with the businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to local media, Richardson stated: &#8220;The fact those managers are no longer with the business is highly relevant.
