Gross gaming revenue was down 23 per cent week-on-week from June 6 to June 12. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Macau.-\u00a0Sanford C. Bernstein Ltd<\/strong>\u00a0has reported that gross gaming revenue (GGR) in Macau may now only reach 15 per cent of 2019 levels. It says that GGR was down 23 per cent week-on-week between June 6 to June 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week saw\u00a0daily casino gross gaming revenue of\u00a0MOP93m<\/strong> down from MOP120m (US$14.8m)<\/strong> the previous week<\/a>. According to analysts at Bernstein,\u00a0GGR for the month to date is down 87 per cent<\/strong>\u00a0when compared to last year and down 3 per cent month-on-month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They say that if the number of visitors does not increase in the remainder of the month, Macau’s GGR will reach just 15 per cent of June 2019\u2019s MOP23.81bn (US$2.95bn).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Macau has announced\u00a0a relaxation of Covid-19 measures<\/a>, however checks on frequent players by Chinese authorities are another possible cause of the downturn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Macau\u2019s gross gaming revenue in May<\/a> was up 2.8 per cent when compared to April<\/a>. It rose from MOP2.68bn (US$331m) in April to MOP3.34bn (US$413.4m) but was down 68 per cent when compared to May 2021 (MOP10.45bn).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Macau to revise GGR forecast for 2022<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As previously reported by Focus Gaming News, Macau\u2019s chief executive\u00a0Ho Iat Seng<\/strong>\u00a0has said that a new GGR forecast will be announced in the second half of the year as part of an amendment to Macau\u2019s 2022 fiscal budget plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In November, authorities had predicted<\/a> that GGR for 2022 would reach MOP130bn (US$16.2bn)<\/strong>. However, they have been forced to modify that forecast due to the impact of the resurgence of Covid-19 cases in mainland China in the first half of the year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
