The Hang Seng Index rose by 1 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- Macau casino stock prices rose after Macau\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre\u00a0<\/strong>extended <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-to-ease-covid-19-test-requirements-from-tomorrow\" target=\"_blank\">Covid-19 test validity<\/a> for inbound travellers from Guangdong from 24 to 48 hours. The shares of Macau casino operators rose between 4 and 8 per cent. The Hang Seng Index rose by 1 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Asian Gaming Brief, analysts said: \u201cThis is still far from the more normal requirement of 7-day validity last year and it\u2019s unlikely to move the needle for actual demand, in our view. That said, directionally speaking, this can still be seen as a baby step toward a more normal travel\/mobility environment, hence we view it as positive.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the gains, analysts remained very cautious about Macau&#8217;s near-term recovery due to China&#8217;s ongoing Covid-19 crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few days ago, the\u00a0<strong>Gaming Inspection and Co-ordination Bureau (DICJ)\u00a0<\/strong>reported that mass-market games, including slot machines, accounted for nearly 72.8 per cent of all\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-mass-ggr-down-8-8-in-q1\" target=\"_blank\">Macau casinos\u2019 gross gaming revenue (GGR)<\/a>\u00a0in the first quarter of 2022, at nearly MOP12.94bn (US$1.60bn).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, mass-market revenue was down 8.8 per cent year-on-year and 10.9 per cent quarter-on-quarter. Mass-market games, including slot machines, accounted for<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/74-3-of-macaus-q4-ggr-came-from-mass-market-gaming\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">74.3 per cent of Macau\u2019s GGR in the fourth quarter of 2021<\/a>, at nearly MOP14.18bn (US$1.77bn).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Macau VIP gaming promoter bill passes first reading<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Macau\u2019s Legislative Assembly has approved the first reading of&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/authorities-in-macau-unveil-details-about-new-vip-gaming-promoter-law\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the new bill on junket businesses<\/a>&nbsp;and satellite casinos. In the first reading,&nbsp;<strong>30 MPs voted in favour&nbsp;<\/strong>while one voted against the bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the legislators who spoke at the debate questioned the viability of satellite casinos continuing to operate under the proposed framework.
