{"id":29163,"date":"2022-04-21T09:46:12","date_gmt":"2022-04-21T12:46:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=29163"},"modified":"2026-04-23T09:25:26","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T12:25:26","slug":"ccc-to-hold-hearing-on-may-3-to-decide-future-of-ipi-casino-licence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/ccc-to-hold-hearing-on-may-3-to-decide-future-of-ipi-casino-licence","title":{"rendered":"CCC to hold hearing on May 3 to decide future of IPI casino licence"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Commonwealth Casino Commission will hold a hearing on five enforcement actions to decide the fate of the company\u2019s exclusive casino licence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Northern Mariana Islands.- The future of Imperial Pacific International could be defined on May 3 when the Commonwealth Casino Commission (CCC) holds a hearing on five enforcement actions that seek the permanent revocation of its exclusive casino licence, which <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/imperial-pacific-faces-saipan-casino-licence-suspension\" target=\"_blank\">has already been suspended<\/a>\u00a0indefinitely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hearing was confirmed by Edward DeLeon Guerrero, Commonwealth Casino Commission board chair. It will be held at the CCC&#8217;s conference room. In October 2021, Andrew Yeom, CCC\u2019s executive director,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/andrew-yeom-files-a-fifth-complaint-against-ipi\" target=\"_blank\">filed five complaints<\/a>\u00a0against Imperial Pacific International seeking\u00a0<strong>to revoke the operator\u2019s exclusive casino licence.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Yeom, IPI&nbsp;<strong>violated five orders<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Failure to<strong>&nbsp;pay its US$3.1m annual regulatory fee&nbsp;<\/strong>in 2020.<\/li><li>Failure to<strong>&nbsp;comply with an order to settle debts<\/strong>&nbsp;with vendors.<\/li><li>Failure to<strong>&nbsp;fulfil minimum capital requirements<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Failure to&nbsp;<strong>pay its annual US$15.5m casino licence<\/strong>&nbsp;fee in 2020.<\/li><li>Failure to&nbsp;<strong>contribute US$20m to the community benefit<\/strong>&nbsp;fund on two occasions in 2018 and 2019.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Deleon Guerrero has requested that the CCC&#8217;s executive director and IPI a list of any stipulations they may have regarding the charges and any settlement for tomorrow (April 22). Both parties will also have to share a complete list of all witnesses, a list of evidence, and any other materials that could be relevant to the hearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CNMI Court orders payment of legal fees for 7 workers who sued IPI<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona\u00a0<\/strong>has awarded $687,793.70 in legal fees to\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/cnmi-court-approves-stay-agreement-between-ipi-and-construction-workers\" target=\"_blank\">seven workers<\/a>\u00a0who were employed by former IPI contractors and subcontractors, MCC International and Gold Mantis. The workers filed a lawsuit against the companies in December 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In March 2019, amendment proceedings were filed against MCC International Saipan Ltd. Co. and IPI as defendants also added a forced labour charge under the federal Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a previous order, the federal court entered a default judgment in favour of the plaintiffs for $5,430,595.58, plus post-judgment interest and attorney fees of $5,915,595.98.
