Seven people were arrested on Easter Sunday in Santa Maria village for alleged involvement in illegal cockfighting. During a raid,\u00a0<strong>police seized seven live and four dead roosters, two gaffs, and P10,320 bet money<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The suspects were arrested at the city&#8217;s police station and charged with violating Presidential Decree 1602 and Republic Act 9287, both of which impose aggravated penalties for illegal gambling. Newly appointed Pampanga Police Chief Colonel Alvin Ruby Consolacion has vowed to prosecute those involved in criminal and prohibited activities, including illegal gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In January, the superintendent of police (SP) Siddharth Kaushal reported that police had\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/india-police-dismantled-52-illegal-cockfight-betting-rings\" target=\"_blank\">dismantled 52 arenas readied for cockfights<\/a>\u00a0in various parts of the district.\u00a0Two weeks ago, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/the-philippines-300-arrested-over-illegal-cockfighting\" target=\"_blank\">police arrested 300 people<\/a>\u00a0at a cockfighting pit in the town of Balingasag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Philippines president continues to defend e-sabong<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>President Rodrigo Duterte has continued to defend\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/philippines-president-e-sabong-will-continue\" target=\"_blank\">e-sabong operations<\/a>\u00a0in the Philippines. He said the government needs revenue from online cockfighting because other funds have been consumed by the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In March,&nbsp;<strong>23 senators<\/strong>&nbsp;signed&nbsp;<strong>Resolution No. 996&nbsp;<\/strong>calling for a suspension of e-sabong after&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/philippines-calls-for-e-sabong-to-be-suspended-after-31-disappear\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">31 people linked to the industry disappeared<\/a>.
