Visitors will be able to present a negative Covid-19 nucleic acid test result obtained in the previous 48 hours instead of\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-keeps-covid-19-test-requirements-for-guangdong-arrivals\" target=\"_blank\">24 hours<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 24-hour validity Covid-19 test measure was imposed on March 18 due to a rise in Covid-19 cases in mainland China. Macao Government Tourism Office director <strong>Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes<\/strong> has said she hopes Macau will receive over 20,000 visitor arrivals a day during the upcoming five-day Labour Day break in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>China\u2019s State Council has designated April 30 to May 4 as this year\u2019s Labour Day break, a period that usually sees strong market demand in Macau. Last year,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-occupancy-hits-83-2-during-labour-day-break\" target=\"_blank\">165,500 tourists came to Macau<\/a>\u00a0during the Labour Day holiday period. The first day was the peak, with 44,000 arrivals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The director of MGTO noted that from April 15 to 18, Macau had an average of 18,000 tourists a day. That was Macau&#8217;s Easter holiday, which is not a holiday in mainland China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Macau&#8217;s Covid-19 Task Force reiterated in its announcement that, as before, travellers departing from Macau to Guangdong province must present a seven-day negative Covid-19 nucleic acid test certificate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mainland China continues to be the only country to have a&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/covid-19-vaccine-passports-could-speed-up-macau-tourism-recovery\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">largely quarantine-free travel bubble<\/a>&nbsp;with Macau.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Concern grows over Covid-19 cases and the impact on Macau\u2019s Labour Day break<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Macau authorities are closely monitoring the evolution of Covid-19 cases in mainland China as the Labour Day holiday period approaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Macau\u2019s chief executive,&nbsp;<strong>Ho Iat Seng<\/strong>, said: \u201cIf we do not see a zero-Covid-19 case scenario [in mainland China] by this month\u2019s end, we are going to have a big problem with the Labour Day holiday.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, he said that after the current wave of Covid-19 infections on the mainland, including in&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-visitor-volume-affected-by-covid-19-surge-in-shanghai-mgto-says\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Shanghai<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-keeps-covid-19-test-requirements-for-guangdong-arrivals\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Guangdong<\/a>, has passed and the situation stabilises, the city will resume negotiations with mainland authorities to restart package tour visa issuance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Authorities will extend the validity of pre-arrival Covid-19 tests to 48 hours.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":26451,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau authorities have extended the validity of pre-arrival Covid-19 tests for inbound travelers from Guangdong to 48 hours, effective April 20, aiming to stimulate visitor arrivals for the upcoming Labour Day holiday.
