{"id":2902,"date":"2020-01-29T10:06:28","date_gmt":"2020-01-29T10:06:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=2902"},"modified":"2026-04-24T08:26:41","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T11:26:41","slug":"macau-banks-coronavirus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-banks-coronavirus","title":{"rendered":"Macau: banks close doors to contain Coronavirus spread"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Banks will be closed from Thursday until next Monday as a part of measures being taken to contain Coronavirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- The Macau Association of Banks has said that local banks will be closed on January 30 and 31 as <a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-visitors-coronavirus\"><em><strong>part of efforts<\/strong><\/em><\/a> to contain the spread of Coronavirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While bank branches will be closed, online banking and ATM machines will remain in service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traditionally, bank branches reopen after the Chinese New Year holidays but the closing period will be extended as Coronavirus continues to spread throughout Macau, China, Asia and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local settlement, loans, credit card repayments and time deposit maturity dates will also be postponed to February 3, but international and cross-border settlement services already agreed will be maintained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If local institutions require urgent settlement services for the purchase of medical supplies and daily necessities they should contact the account manager of their respective bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The decision comes after local authorities\u00a0announced\u00a0that public workers will be exempt from working on January 30 and 31 as a preventive measure and asked private entities to do the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/china-visas-macau-casino-suspended\"><em><strong>Several travel restrictions have also been put in place for Macau <\/strong><\/em><\/a>and Hong Kong, such as the suspension of\u00a0individual travel visas\u00a0for mainlanders wanting to visit the SARs and the cancellation or reduction of ferry services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are currently seven confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Macau, all Wuhan residents, with patients said to be in stable conditions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Banks will be closed from Thursday until next Monday as a part of measures being taken to contain Coronavirus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":2904,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau banks will extend their Chinese New Year holiday closure until February 3rd as a measure to contain the Coronavirus spread, impacting local settlement, loans, and credit card repayments.
