Police said the online operations targeted Chinese consumers and generated\u00a0<strong>nearly CNY10bn (US$1.57bn) in revenue<\/strong>\u00a0over the past three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities found that the actual location of the five gambling sites was in the Philippines and said <strong>the sites had more than 200,000 member customers<\/strong>\u00a0in mainland China. Those arrested were accused of cross-border gambling in the Chinese cities of Jiangxi, Fujian and Chongqing. They&#8217;re suspected of helping to run the gambling sites and settle player bets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In February, the\u00a0<strong>Ministry of Public Security\u00a0<\/strong>said it was going to continue its efforts to\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/china-to-continue-crackdown-on-cross-border-gambling-in-2022\" target=\"_blank\">crack down on cross-border gambling this year<\/a>. Through a statement, the ministry recalled the action it had taken in 2021 and said it would continue the policy this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>China plans to work with international law enforcement bodies and push for \u201cjoint crackdown\u201d action with other countries so that cross-border gambling groups that targeted mainland Chinese nationals could receive \u201csevere punishment\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/china-investigated-over-17000-cross-border-gambling-cases-in-2021\" target=\"_blank\">In a statement released in January<\/a>, the\u00a0<strong>Ministry of Public Security<\/strong>\u00a0said authorities had dismantled &#8220;more than 2,200 online gambling platforms&#8221; and &#8220;more than 1,600 illegal payment platforms and underground banks&#8221; in 2021. In 2020, China created <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/china-continues-to-expand-gambling-blacklist\" target=\"_blank\">a blacklist of destinations<\/a>\u00a0to which cross-border transfers are controlled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>blacklist<\/strong>&nbsp;is compiled through work by multiple departments, including the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Public Security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Macau to proactively tackle illicit gambling websites<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Police will join forces with the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) and&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-casino-operators-to-be-charged-up-to-us10m-for-extension-of-concessions\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Macau\u2019s six casino operators<\/a>&nbsp;to tackle illicit gambling websites that make fraudulent use of the city\u2019s casino brands.
