The Macau government collected nearly MOP5.73bn (US$711.18m) in fiscal revenues from direct taxes on gaming in the first two months of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Macau.- Authorities in Macau have shared a financial report showing that\u00a0the city collected MOP5.73bn (US$711.18m) <\/strong>from gaming taxes\u00a0between January 1 and February 28. According to\u00a0Macau\u2019s Financial Services Bureau<\/strong>, the figure was down 9.4 per cent when compared to the first two months of 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities have forecast revenue from direct taxes on gaming at MOP33.91bn (US$4.22bn) for 2022. In 2021, the government collected nearly\u00a0MOP33.9bn (US$4.22bn)<\/strong>, a 13.8 per cent increase<\/a>\u00a0year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In January, the government collected MOP3.26bn in gaming taxes payable by the industry while in February the figure was a quarter lower at MOP2.47bn. Macau has an effective tax rate of 39 per cent on casino GGR \u2013 35 per cent of which comes from direct government taxes and the rest through a series of levies for a range of charities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Macau casinos\u2019 gross gaming revenue (GGR) for the first two months of the year was MOP14.1bn, down 8 per cent from the first two months of 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
