{"id":2834,"date":"2020-01-28T10:20:32","date_gmt":"2020-01-28T10:20:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=2834"},"modified":"2026-04-24T08:30:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T11:30:10","slug":"coronavirus-malaysia-pneumonia-outbreak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/coronavirus-malaysia-pneumonia-outbreak","title":{"rendered":"Coronavirus: Malaysia turns away Chinese tourists"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Malaysian government stops issuing entrance visas to visitors from Wuhan City and the surrounding province of Hubei.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Malaysia.- The Malaysian government has decided to ban the entrance of all visitors from the Chinese city of Wuhan and its surrounding Hubei province in a bid to prevent further spread of the deadly Coronavirus outbreak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A statement from the Prime Minister\u2019s office said authorities will temporarily stop issuing visas for Chinese citizens from the Wuhan and Hubei areas with immediate effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe government has decided to suspend temporarily all immigration facilities \u2026 to all China nationals from Wuhan city and the surrounding Hubei province,\u201d it said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Malaysia has reported four confirmed cases of the virus which started in the central-Chinese city and has since spread worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All four victims, including two children, are in stable condition. They are tourists from Wuhan who entered Malaysia for a holiday via neighbouring Singapore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The virus, similar to the SARS pathogen, has claimed at least 81 lives so far \u2014 all of them in China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Malaysia welcomed 2.94 million visitors from China last year and is aiming to raise the number to 3.48 million this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The prime minister\u2019s office said the ban will be lifted when the situation returns to normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, a campaign by Malaysians on petition website change.org urging the government to ban Chinese nationals from entering the country has attracted more than 383,000 signatures as of Monday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe government should think more of the health of Malaysians,\u201d the petition said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t wait until there is death among Malaysian people then only the government wants to take some preventive action.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Malaysian government stops issuing entrance visas to visitors from Wuhan City and the surrounding province of Hubei.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":2838,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"The Malaysian government has implemented a temporary ban on visitors from Wuhan City and Hubei province, China, to curb the spread of the Coronavirus outbreak.
