Those being investigated are aged between 64 to 86 years old and were detected when police carried out a raid on Whampoa Drive on March 12. During the operation, police seized more than $3,000 in cash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to local media reports,\u00a0<strong>three of the men are suspected of being illegal bookmakers\u00a0<\/strong>while the other two were placing bets. Those caught betting on bookmakers could be fined up to $5,000 or jailed for up to six months, or both, police warned. Gambling is punishable by fines ranging from $20,000 to $200,000 and up to five years in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last week, police reported that\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/singapore-12-investigated-for-illegal-gambling\" target=\"_blank\">they were investigating 12 people<\/a>\u00a0for suspected involvement in illegal gambling following a series of raids carried out between February 26 and March 9.
