{"id":28006,"date":"2022-03-11T09:37:57","date_gmt":"2022-03-11T12:37:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=28006"},"modified":"2026-04-23T10:35:27","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T13:35:27","slug":"singapore-parliament-passes-new-gambling-legislation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/singapore-parliament-passes-new-gambling-legislation","title":{"rendered":"Singapore parliament passes new gambling legislation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Legislators in Singapore have approved two key bills on gambling regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Singapore.- The Singapore parliament has approved the\u00a0<strong>Gambling Regulatory Authority of Singapore Bill<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0<strong>Gambling Control Bill.<\/strong> The\u00a0former will create\u00a0the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/new-singapore-gambling-legislation-receives-first-reading\" target=\"_blank\">Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA)<\/a>\u00a0as a single regulator for all forms of gambling. Singapore hopes the new regulator will be in place for mid-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second bill will <strong>make it a criminal offence for under-aged individuals to gamble<\/strong>, \u201cregardless whether with legal or unlawful operators\u201d and for under-aged individuals to enter gambling areas, \u201cexcept where entry checks are not required\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the new bill, the legal age for gambling in Singapore will remain 21, except for gambling at Singapore Pools\u2019 physical outlets which will remain at 18. A new offence of proxy gambling will be introduced, criminalising gambling through someone else. Family and friends will be allowed to socially gamble at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Desmond Tan, minister of state for home affairs, said: &#8220;Social gambling will only be allowed in a person\u2019s home, and will not be allowed in places like hotels and chalets.
