Police in Singapore are investigating 12 people for alleged involvement in illegal gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Singapore.- Police are investigating\u00a012 people<\/strong>\u00a0for suspected involvement in illegal gambling following a series of raids carried out between February 26 and March 9. The eleven men and one woman are aged between 34 and 80.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three men are suspected of being bookmakers<\/strong>\u00a0and two of them are being investigated for an alleged offence under the Remote Gambling Act. A 71-year-old woman is believed to have bought a ticket from an 80-year-old man running an illegal public lottery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the raids, police seized money, mobile phones and gambling-related paraphernalia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Singapore, bookmakers may be fined $20,000 to $200,000 <\/strong>and can be sentenced to a maximum of five years in jail. Those who place bets with a bookmaker may be fined up to $5,000 and receive up to six months in jail, or both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A week ago, a man called Seet Seo Boon<\/a> was fined S$620,000<\/strong> (US$456,000) for running an online gambling syndicate between 2011 and 2016. The High Court heard that the syndicate generated more than S$100m (US$75m) in revenue from two illegal gambling websites.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
