The eleven men and one woman are aged between 34 and 80.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Three men are suspected of being bookmakers<\/strong>\u00a0and two of them are being investigated for an alleged offence under the Remote Gambling Act. A 71-year-old woman is believed to have bought a ticket from an 80-year-old man running an illegal public lottery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the raids, police seized money, mobile phones and gambling-related paraphernalia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Singapore,&nbsp;<strong>bookmakers may be fined $20,000 to $200,000&nbsp;<\/strong>and can be sentenced to a maximum of five years in jail. Those who place bets with a bookmaker may be fined up to $5,000 and receive up to six months in jail, or both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A week ago, a man called&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/singapore-gambling-syndicate-leader-fined-us456000\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Seet Seo Boon<\/a>&nbsp;was&nbsp;<strong>fined S$620,000<\/strong>&nbsp;(US$456,000) for running an online gambling syndicate between 2011 and 2016.
