{"id":27930,"date":"2022-03-09T07:44:43","date_gmt":"2022-03-09T10:44:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=27930"},"modified":"2026-04-23T10:40:32","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T13:40:32","slug":"former-ceo-of-singapore-casino-regulator-appointed-fatf-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/former-ceo-of-singapore-casino-regulator-appointed-fatf-president","title":{"rendered":"Former CEO of Singapore casino regulator appointed FATF President"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Financial Action Task Force will be led by T Raja Kumar, former chief executive of the Casino Regulatory Authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Singapore.- Authorities in Singapore have revealed that T Raja Kumar, former chief executive of the Casino Regulatory Authority (CRA), has been appointed as the next president of the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/the-philippines-remains-on-fatf-grey-list-2\" target=\"_blank\">Financial Action Task Force (FATF)<\/a>, the Paris-based inter-governmental agency that monitors controls on anti-money laundering and terrorist financing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Raja will assume office on July 1 for a fixed two-year term, replacing <strong>Marcus Pleyer<\/strong>. Raja is the\u00a0<strong>current head of Singapore\u2019s delegation to the FATF<\/strong>\u00a0and has served in this capacity since January 2015. He has also been a member of the Steering Group, which provides advice to the FATF President, since July 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He previously worked as deputy secretary at the ministry of home affairs. He also served as senior deputy director of the Commercial Affairs Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>K Shanmugam<\/strong>, minister for home affairs and law, said: \u201cCongratulations to Raja for being the first Singaporean to lead the FATF. Raja\u2019s capabilities, international experience, and work as a senior public sector leader, operating in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment across a range of disciplines, will come in useful to lead an international organisation such as the FATF.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Singapore\u2019s Minister for Finance,<strong> Lawrence Wong<\/strong>, added: &#8220;Singapore strongly supports the outstanding work of the FATF in establishing and implementing global standards to combat money laundering and terrorism financing. Raja has a long history of contributing to the FATF\u2019s work.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I look forward to Raja, as President, bringing together law enforcement authorities, financial sector and other AML\/CFT supervisors, as well as private sector stakeholders to achieve effective outcomes. Raja\u2019s experience and leadership will enable him to effectively lead the FATF\u2019s mission in the years ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New Singapore gambling legislation receives first reading<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Two key bills on gambling legislation have had their first readings in Singapore\u2019s parliament. The&nbsp;<strong>Gambling Regulatory Authority of Singapore Bill<\/strong>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<strong>Gambling Control Bill<\/strong>&nbsp;aim to set out clearer regulations for gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>Gambling Regulatory Authority of Singapore Bill<\/strong>\u00a0will create a new Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) as a single regulator for all forms of gambling.
