{"id":2791,"date":"2020-01-27T09:32:21","date_gmt":"2020-01-27T09:32:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=2791"},"modified":"2026-04-24T08:33:23","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T11:33:23","slug":"egba-germanys-regulations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/egba-germanys-regulations","title":{"rendered":"EGBA discusses Germany\u2019s new regulations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The European association EGBA has welcomed the progress in Germany regarding new gambling regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Germany.- The\u00a0<strong><em>European Gaming and Betting Association<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(EGBA) has issued a statement in which it welcomes progress on Germany\u2019s new draft state treaty for gambling regulation, which was provisionally agreed last week by Germany\u2019s regional state authorities.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new treaty, which will be voted at the Minister-Presidents meeting on March, would replace the existing second state treaty and come into force on July 1, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It aims to regulate the local activity in a more effective way and ensure gambling takes place within the legal, regulated gambling environment, particularly in the online sector. This will be a challenge given the very low channelling rates in the German gambling market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEGBA welcomes the progress made and encourages the German authorities to ensure the new regulation will achieve the multiple objectives of consumer protection, state tax revenues and regulatory oversight of gambling. In this respect, EGBA believes that some of the proposals in the current draft treaty (re: live betting restrictions, limits on advertising and curbs on player account activity) would be detrimental and counterproductive to the intentions of the regulation and we urge the authorities to reconsider their approach,\u201d said the association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a positive development towards bringing Germany\u2019s gambling regulation into the 21st century. The challenge will be to deliver a new regulation which is fit for the digital age we live in, which provides a safer gambling environment for consumers and enables a well-regulated and well-channelled market.
