The Western Australia Royal Commission has delivered its final report one year after it began its inquiry into Crown Perth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Australia.-\u00a0The Western Australian Royal Commission<\/strong>\u00a0into Crown Perth has delivered its findings to prime minister Mark McGowan and premier Kim Beazley. The inquiry was expected to deliver\u00a0a final report in November <\/strong>but\u00a0an extension was granted<\/a>\u00a0to give commissioners more time to carry out investigations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Western Australian government has yet to decide\u00a0when to publish the report’s findings<\/strong>. The Crown Perth investigation is one of a series of serious investigations into Crown Resorts’ alleged money laundering, criminal infiltration and other problems. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week,\u00a0AUSTRAC<\/strong>, the Australian financial authority announced that it has\u00a0commenced civil penalty proceedings<\/a>\u00a0in Federal Court against\u00a0Crown Melbourne<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Crown Perth<\/a>.\u00a0The regulator accuses Crown Resorts of serious and systemic non-compliance with Australia\u2019s anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML\/CTF) laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proceedings could lead to fines ranging from AU$18m to AU$22.2m per violation<\/strong>. If AUSTRAC’s case succeeds in federal court, the total fine imposed could risk\u00a0Blackstone Inc.’s planned takeover of Crown<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A fine of more than AU$750m could see Blackstone back out of the deal, according to the terms of the proposed deal filed with the ASX. The deal still needs to be cleared by the\u00a0Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB)<\/strong>\u00a0and by gaming regulators in the states where Crown operates.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
