{"id":27796,"date":"2022-03-04T06:47:20","date_gmt":"2022-03-04T09:47:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=27796"},"modified":"2026-04-23T10:48:37","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T13:48:37","slug":"macau-gives-details-on-future-of-satellite-casinos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-gives-details-on-future-of-satellite-casinos","title":{"rendered":"Macau gives details on future of satellite casinos"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Authorities have provided further details on plans for satellite casinos under the proposed amendments to Macau&#8217;s gaming law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Macau.- <strong>Legislator Chan Chak Mo<\/strong>\u00a0has told local media in Macau that <strong>satellite casinos may continue to exist\u00a0<\/strong>under the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-likely-to-end-sub-concessions-system-for-casino-operators\" target=\"_blank\">proposed new regulatory regime<\/a> but  will receive a three-year grace period to tie ownership of their sites to one of the city&#8217;s six franchises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chan Chak Mo said the start of that period would coincide with the start date of the city&#8217;s new gaming concessions, which will be awarded following a new public tender, which is expected to be held in the last quarter of the year. During the period, satellite casino owners must sell their ownership of the land-based casino to one of the then-existing gaming franchisees under a so-called strata title basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However,<strong>\u00a0Chan Chak Mo <\/strong>said: &#8220;If the satellite gaming space occupies one-tenth of the whole building\u2019s floor area, then, as long as this one-tenth part can be illustrated with the relevant construction plan, a gaming concessionaire is only required to acquire the gaming space, instead of the whole building that houses it.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are currently\u00a0<strong>18 satellite casinos in Macau\u00a0<\/strong>operating under a licence attached to one of the concessionaires, but which are run by third parties in individually owned premises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier this week, Macau confirmed the extension of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-casino-licences-to-be-extended-to-december-31-2022\" target=\"_blank\">current gaming concessions and sub-concessions<\/a>\u00a0for six months.<strong> New 10-year franchises<\/strong> following the tender are expected to begin at the start of 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Authorities have provided further details on plans for satellite casinos under the proposed amendments to Macau&#8217;s gaming law.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":26764,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau's proposed gaming law amendments will grant satellite casinos a three-year grace period, commencing with new concession awards in early 2023, to transfer ownership of their gaming premises to one of the six primary concessionaires.
