Macau registered 694,430 visitor arrivals in January, down 15.4 per cent month-on-month but up 24.7 per cent when compared to 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Macau.- The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has reported that Macau\u00a0received 694,430 tourists in January<\/strong>, down 15.4 per cent month-on-month.\u00a0The decline was mainly attributed to\u00a0the tightening of border-control measures between Zhuhai and Macau<\/a>\u00a0after Omicron Covid-19 cases were detected in several cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The number of same-day visitors to Macau increased by 56.5 per cent to 450,428 while the number of overnight visitors in January was 244,002, down by 9.3 per cent year-on-year.\u00a0The average length of stay of visitors declined to 0.3 of a day during the period month-on-month and to 1.3 days year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Macau received 642,016 tourists from mainland China<\/strong>, an increase of 29.4 per cent year-on-year. Mainland China continues to be the only country to have a\u00a0largely quarantine-free travel bubble<\/a>\u00a0with Macau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Macau visitor arrivals up 30.7% in 2021<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Macau\u00a0received 7.971m tourists in 2021<\/strong>, up 30.7 per cent year-on-year. The average length of stay of visitors increased to 1.6 days during the period. The number of overnight visitors in 2021 was close to 3.7 million, a year-on-year increase of 31 per cent.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2021, Macau received about 7.05 million tourists from mainland China<\/strong>, an increase of 48.2 per cent over the previous year. There were nearly 2.45 million individual trips, an increase of 31.3 per cent. Visitors from Hong Kong (589,014) and Taiwan (70,950) fell by 30.1 per cent and 31.9 per cent respectively as Macau remains closed to overseas tourists.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
