The announcement is seen as positive for the country&#8217;s POGO industry, which employs a large number of expatriate workers from mainland China and Asia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the reopening of the borders, the government also hopes to contribute to the economic recovery of the tourism and gaming sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The capital city of Manila was\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/metro-manila-casinos-to-close-until-at-least-january-15\" target=\"_blank\">under Level 3 Covid-19 restrictions<\/a>\u00a0through January after a new rise of Covid-19 cases and the detection of three local cases of the Omicron variant. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/manila-casinos-continue-operating-despite-new-covid-19-countermeasures\" target=\"_blank\">Casinos continued operating<\/a>\u00a0but on a limited basis, and only fully vaccinated customers were allowed to enter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to\u00a0<strong>acting presidential spokesperson and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles<\/strong>, in 2021 the country saw only 1.4 million arrivals, significantly lower than the 3.6 million in 2020.
