According to Spain\u2019s Minister of Consumer Affairs, Alberto Garz\u00f3n, they will reveal the regulatory changes for the gambling industry in \u201ctwo or three weeks\u201d. The sector is asking that the modifications be fair for both the public and private sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After announcing his interest in regulating the operations of the industry, Garz\u00f3n said that he will discuss with representatives to reach an agreement that benefits all. \u201cThere won\u2019t be measures taken unilaterally,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe subject of gambling advertising is pure chaos. It is a public health problem where we have to intervene, said Garz\u00f3n, who began his term this month. He added: \u201cSome autonomous communities have a list of banned sites, people who know they have a problem sign up and are already forbidden to play, but if they pass to another autonomous community, which can be five kilometres away, it is not on the list. These gaps exist, but there are mechanisms to regulate them. \u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The request of the private sector<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Before assuming, the new president, Pedro S\u00e1nchez, gave a speech in which he spoke in favour of the regulation of gambling advertising. In response, Cejuego and Jdigital called for dialogues with the president and a balanced and fair regulation for the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cejuego\u00a0said: \u201cThe advertising of the entire game is regulated without making distinctions, that is, that it affects both the public game (SELAE and ONCE) as well as the private game. And specifically, that is regulated in terms of quantity, messages and schedules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Online gambling is a major contributor in Spain<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0Directorate General for Game Management\u00a0(DGOJ) of Spain recently published the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/spain-online-gambling\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><em>third-quarter financial report<\/em><\/strong><\/a>. Although the economic growth of the industry had already been highlighted, the online gambling sector proved to be a major force in Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report indicates that online gambling experienced a growth of 16.5% compared to the previous quarter, and 3.2% when compared to the same period in 2018. On the other hand, sports betting was the top scorer in the country with 43.9%.
