Macau.- The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has reported that Macau\u00a0received 7.971m tourists in 2021<\/strong>, up 30.7 per cent year-on-year. The average length of stay of visitors increased to 1.6 days during the period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The number of overnight visitors in 2021 was close to 3.7 million, a year-on-year increase of 31 per cent. Official figures show that overnight visitors accounted for 48 per cent of total visitor arrivals. The number of visitors to Macau on the same day increased by 30.4 per cent to about 4.01 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2021,\u00a0Macau received about 7.05 million tourists from mainland China<\/strong>, an increase of 48.2 per cent over the previous year. There were nearly 2.45 million individual trips, an increase of 31.3 per cent. Visitors from Hong Kong (589,014) and Taiwan (70,950) fell by 30.1 per cent and 31.9 per cent respectively as Macau remains closed to overseas tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mainland China continues to be the only country to have a largely quarantine-free travel bubble<\/a> with Macau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Authorities have imposed\u00a0new travel restrictions<\/a>\u00a0on incoming travellers from mainland China, including those from Macau\u2019s neighbouring city of Zhuhai in Guangdong province. Inbound travellers from Zhuhai must present a negative Covid-19 nucleic acid test result obtained in the previous 24 hours instead of in the\u00a0previously set 48 hours<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Authorities in Zhuhai have tightened travel restrictions after seeing a rising number of Covid-19 infections in the city<\/strong>.
