The bill will be sent to a subcommittee after a first reading vote. The committee may propose changes before a second and final reading and voting at another plenary meeting of the General Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As\u00a0<strong>the entire process may not be completed<\/strong>\u00a0before the six existing casino concessions expire on June 26, authorities will consider extending existing licensees to the extent permitted by current gaming laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-casino-licences-limited-to-six-with-a-duration-of-10-years\">new amendment bill<\/a>,<strong>\u00a0the concession period will be for a maximum of 10 years<\/strong>\u00a0but can be extended for a further three years in exceptional circumstances. There would remain up to six concessions but the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-likely-to-end-sub-concessions-system-for-casino-operators\">current sub-concession system<\/a> would end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All six Macau casino operators have\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-casino-operators-in-favour-of-gaming-law-amendment-bill\">shown support for amendments<\/a>\u00a0to the gaming regulatory framework. <strong>MGM China Holdings <\/strong>said the bill \u201cprovides details over various key aspects of the overall administrative procedures and timetable, outlining a clear roadmap on the upcoming important milestone of retendering.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sands China\u00a0<\/strong>said the amendments provide \u201cclear guidelines on several proposed changes following feedback from the industry and the general public.\u201d <strong>Wynn Macau<\/strong>\u00a0said: \u201cThe enhancement of these regulations will significantly strengthen the sustainable development of Macau.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SJM Resorts SA<\/strong>\u00a0said the bill showed \u201cthe Government has taken into account the views collected from the industry and various sectors during the public consultation.\u201d <strong>Galaxy Entertainment Group<\/strong> said that \u201chaving optimised laws and regulations in place will lay a solid foundation for the city\u2019s steady development.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile,\u00a0<strong>Melco Resorts and Entertainment<\/strong>, said it is \u201ccommitted to participating in the public tender of the award of a gaming concession and will continue to promote economic diversification.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A first-reading debate and vote on the gaming law amendment bill will be held next Monday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":10582,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau's Legislative Council is set to conduct the first reading of the gaming law amendment bill on January 24.
