Authorities in Klang have carried out a series of raids targeting the promotion of online gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Malaysia.- Police have detained 10 alleged members of gambling syndicates at two venues near Klang<\/strong>. They are accused of conducting online gambling transactions worth nearly RM5m a month with more than 3,000 players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Selangor police chief Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed <\/strong>told The Sun Daily the suspects were six men and four women, aged in their 20s and 40s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He said: “We have also detected that the syndicate had players from Malaysia and Indonesia. They use a number of local and overseas bank accounts for the gambling transactions.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n During the raids, police seized 21 laptops, IT tools and cash totalling RM100,000. All suspects have been remanded in custody to assist police investigations under the General Gaming Act 1953.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Arjunaidi said police conducted other raids on a house in Klangtan<\/strong> and two in Kajang, detaining 18 people: 13 players and five caretakers. Police also seized computers, information technology tools and cash during the raids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to Arjunaidi 6,432 investigation papers have been opened involving 10,649 arrests in 2020 and 2021. He said that under the online gambling category, 2,106 investigation papers had been opened and 5,792 arrests made. The unlicensed public lottery saw 4,326 investigation papers were opened and 4,857 arrests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A few days ago, officers in Kuching<\/a> confirmed 22 people had been arrested during a series of raids at three online gambling call centres.
