Bernstein Ltd. forecasts Macau&#8217;s GGR is likely to recover 47 per cent year-over-year in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- After Macau reported\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-up-1-8-in-december\">full-year gross gambling revenue of MOP86.86bn<\/a>\u00a0(US$10.82bn), analysts have started to make predictions for the year 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This includes\u00a0<strong>Vitaly Umansky, an analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein Ltd.<\/strong>, who has predicted Macau&#8217;s GGR could recover 47 per cent year-over-year in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the figure will still be only 44 per cent of pre-pandemic levels in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Analysts also predicted that travel rules between Hong Kong and Macau will begin to ease &#8220;at the end of the first quarter or early in the second quarter&#8221;.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was also stated that the first quarter could be weaker than expected if a new Covid-19 outbreak restricts travel again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local media reports have recently informed<strong>&nbsp;new Covid-19 cases were discovered in the neighbouring province of Guangdong<\/strong>&nbsp;while authorities in Hong Kong reported 22 new Covid-19 cases were detected in recent hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Hong Kong Chief Executive<\/strong>, said the&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/hong-kong-china-travel-bubble-delayed-due-to-omicron-cases\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">long-awaited travel bubble<\/a>&nbsp;with mainland China will have to wait due to the outbreak of Omicron cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>reopening of the border between Hong Kong and Macau was highly expected&nbsp;<\/strong>as Hong Kong has historically accounted for 15 per cent to 20 per cent of Macau\u2019s total gaming revenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mainland China continues to be the only country to have a&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/covid-19-vaccine-passports-could-speed-up-macau-tourism-recovery\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">largely quarantine-free travel bubble<\/a>&nbsp;with Macau.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sanford C.
