{"id":26121,"date":"2022-01-10T10:18:58","date_gmt":"2022-01-10T13:18:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=26121"},"modified":"2026-04-23T12:24:48","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T15:24:48","slug":"china-investigated-over-17000-cross-border-gambling-cases-in-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/china-investigated-over-17000-cross-border-gambling-cases-in-2021","title":{"rendered":"China investigated over 17,000 cross-border gambling cases in 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Authorities in China revealed more than 17,000 cross-border gambling cases were handled in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>China.- The country\u2019s Ministry of Public Security has recently stated it has investigated<strong>&nbsp;more than 17,000 cross-border gambling cases in 2021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to statements,&nbsp;<strong>more than 80,000 suspects have been detained<\/strong>&nbsp;while 2,200 online gambling platforms were shut down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ministry stated: &#8220;Domestic crackdown actions on customer solicitation networks, money laundering activities and illicit financing channels used by large-size overseas gambling groups were successful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<strong>All endeavours will be made to resolutely deter cross-border gambling<\/strong>\u00a0and eradicate the breeding ground for cross-border gambling.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From March 1, 2021, China&#8217;s revised Criminal Law made it illegal for anyone who assists in cross-border gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before the entry into force of the new code, the three mainland law enforcement agencies issued a joint statement in early February last year, calling on individuals to surrender or assist in judicial investigations of&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/china-continues-to-target-cross-border-gambling\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cross-border gambling activities<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The authorities said at the time that in return they would consider lenient treatment when dealing with such issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry of Public Security of China pointed out that\u00a0<strong>more than 1,100 suspects whether in mainland China or elsewhere-had &#8220;surrendered&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0to the Chinese authorities regarding cross-border gambling crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last June,&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/china-announces-new-measures-against-cross-border-gambling\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new measures to fight cross-border gambling<\/a>&nbsp;were also announced by the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CAC\u2019s proposal included enhancing precision strikes on overseas gambling groups, strengthening supervision of blockchain services and related platforms and forming an effective structure within responsible authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2020 China also established&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/china-continues-to-expand-gambling-blacklist\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a blacklist of destinations<\/a>&nbsp;to which cross-border transfers are controlled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>blacklist<\/strong>&nbsp;is compiled through work by multiple departments, including the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Public Security.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Authorities in China revealed more than 17,000 cross-border gambling cases were handled in 2021.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":14282,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"China's Ministry of Public Security reported handling over 17,000 cross-border gambling cases in 2021, leading to 80,000 detentions and the shutdown of 2,200 online platforms.
