Chief Minister Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin has announced the legislation that banned online gambling in Tamil Nadu will soon be effective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
India.- After some back and forth, it seems Tamil Nadu will finally ban online gambling as Chief Minister Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin<\/strong> said the law was enacted by the previous government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Tamil Nadu bill was introduced by deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam<\/a> and includes punishments of up to two years in prison<\/strong> or a fine of up to Rs10,000 (US$ 137.15) for online gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When enacting the law, authorities stated: “Due to online gaming, innocent people, mainly youngsters, are being cheated and some people have committed suicide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n “In order to avoid such incidents of suicide and protect the innocent people<\/strong> from the evils of online gaming.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n Last August The Madras High Court<\/a> struck down the legislation that banned online gambling in Tamil Nadu following a petition brought by online operators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n However, last December the government of Tamil Nadu went to the Supreme Court<\/a> in a bid to reinstate its ban on online gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Last November, the Karnataka state government<\/a> also took the decision to ban all forms of gambling in the state.
