But Sithar told Reuters<strong>\u00a0nearly 300 employees continued striking despite the arrests<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last June,&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/nagacorp-confirms-cut-jobs-due-to-economic-crisis\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NagaCorp<\/a>&nbsp;confirmed plans to reduce pay and lay off employees<strong>&nbsp;in order to improve cost efficiency<\/strong>&nbsp;due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Members of the<strong>&nbsp;Labor Rights Supported Union of Khmer Employees of NagaWorld&nbsp;<\/strong>previously demanded NagaWorld reverse redundancies and rehire some of those fired and increase the&nbsp;<strong>enhanced termination compensation<\/strong>&nbsp;for those workers who have already accepted severance arrangements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last December, the company released a statement clarifying that its operations have not been affected by the strike and stated the dispute with workers began when the company implemented an employee rationalization programme in a bid to improve cost and operational efficiency following the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The programme included<strong>\u00a0a mutual separation plan that affected 1,329 employees<\/strong>\u00a0who would receive &#8220;enhanced compensation&#8221;.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the company said 360 of its affected employees refused to accept the MSP and served notification of a potential strike on 18 December 2021.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cambodian officers arrested 15 NagaWorld employees who were striking at NagaWorld&#8217;s venue in Phnom Penh.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":25662,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Cambodian authorities have initiated arrests of NagaWorld employees engaged in an ongoing strike in Phnom Penh, following a court declaration deeming the industrial action illegal.
