{"id":25945,"date":"2022-01-03T09:06:45","date_gmt":"2022-01-03T12:06:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=25945"},"modified":"2026-04-23T12:37:13","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T15:37:13","slug":"metro-manila-casinos-to-close-until-at-least-january-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/metro-manila-casinos-to-close-until-at-least-january-15","title":{"rendered":"Metro Manila Casinos to close until at least January 15"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Due to a new outbreak of Covid-19 cases, authorities in Manila ordered casino venues to close their doors until at least January 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>The Philippines.- The capital city of Manila is under Level 3 Covid-19 restrictions and authorities have now decided to close casinos in Entertainment City from January 3 to January 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The measure was taken after a new rise of Covid-19 cases and the detection of three local cases of the Omicron variant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Asia Gaming Brief, presidential spokesperson Karlo Nograles stated: &#8220;The epidemiological investigation on the three local cases indicate there is a high possibility of local transmission of Omicron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;In the coming days, we might see an increase in active cases.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The government of The Philippines\u00a0<\/strong>had previously decided to keep the country\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/philippines-to-remain-at-alert-level-2-until-december-31\">under Alert Level 2<\/a>\u00a0until the end of last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, authorities warned it was not possible to downgrade the level of Covid-19 alert due to uncertainty surrounding the Omicron strain.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Until new restrictions were announced, casinos in Metro Manila were operating on a limited basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last November,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/city-of-dreams-manila-resumes-operations-at-90-capacity\">City of Dreams Manila<\/a>\u00a0had announced through its website that it had increased its casino gaming floor capacity from 75 per cent to 90 per cent.
