The plan proposes measures to accelerate a proposed economic diversification and cooperation with other regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding the future of the gaming industry, the plan reportedly says authorities hope to increase the mass market proportion of gaming revenue and to analyse requests to increase gaming tables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2019, premium mass accounted for 30 per cent <strong>of the city&#8217;s gaming revenue of MOP295bn<\/strong>. Base mass tables accounted for 25 per cent, slot machines\/ETG 6 per cent, with <strong>VIP still leading at 39 per cent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Plans for the diversification of Macau\u2019s economy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The report reveals authorities want to\u00a0<strong>promote industries<\/strong>\u00a0such as medical and health, modern finance, high-tech, exhibition and trade, and culture and sports. The plan points out that while ensuring the stable development of the gaming industry, Macau needs to <strong>promote the development of creative and distinctive non-gaming industries<\/strong>\u00a0to attract more international and diversified tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few months ago,&nbsp;<strong>Pedro Cortes<\/strong>, managing partner at law firm Rato, Ling, Lei &amp; Cortes, and&nbsp;<strong>Antonio Lobo Viela<\/strong>, an advisor on gaming-related matters, issued <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-to-reconsider-citys-gaming-licence-criteria\">a research paper<\/a>&nbsp;proposing requirements for operators to help&nbsp;<strong>the diversification of Macau\u2019s economy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Analysts also suggest there should be a requirement for<strong>\u00a0proposals for investment in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA)\u00a0<\/strong>to create an international world-class tourism destination, recognising the uniqueness of Macau\u2019s cultural and social resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities are currently reviewing the city\u2019s gaming law. According to local media reports, authorities in Macau want to&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-likely-to-end-sub-concessions-system-for-casino-operators\">end the current sub-concession system<\/a><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>that led to the creation of three additional Macau casino licences.&nbsp;The government also wants<strong>&nbsp;to increase the oversight of gaming concessionaires and junket operations<\/strong>, but it will maintain at least six gaming concessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A final report on the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/359-attended-macaus-gaming-law-consultation-sessions\">public consultation sessions<\/a>&nbsp;held in November is being written, after which a draft will be submitted to the Legislative Assembly for additional conversation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Macau has released its Second Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development for the 2021-2025 period.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":25666,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau has unveiled its Second Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), emphasizing economic diversification beyond gaming.
