A labour union leader has confirmed that NagaWorld workers will go on strike against the company plans to reduce pay and lay off employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Cambodia.- NagaWorld employees will start a strike on December 18 after\u00a0government-mediated negotiations<\/a>\u00a0with the casino operator failed to bear fruit. In June,\u00a0NagaCorp<\/a>\u00a0confirmed plans to reduce pay and lay off employees\u00a0in order to improve cost efficiency<\/strong>\u00a0due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The company has launched a rationalisation programme that it says will\u00a0help deliver continued financial stability<\/strong>\u00a0over the long term. NagaCorp said close to\u00a0600 employees will lose their positions<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Sithar Chhim, a union leader, told GGRAsia between 1,500 to 2,000 former and current NagaWorld employees will participate in the strike.\u00a0According to Chhim, it is estimated that approximately 70 per cent of those participating in the action are current employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The country\u2019s Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training has asked the union to delay the planned strike and to drop some of its demands.
